Some questions to consider for Tuesday 29th September, in preparation for your 1st assignment - summary response.

Do one, all, or some of these tasks below. They are aimed at preparing you for assignment 1. :

1. What is your definition of 'family'?
What is your definition of 'values'?
What is your definition of 'family values'?

Consider blood relatives, nuclear family, extended, etc etc

Compare your ideas with these from Earth's Common Sense Think Tank http://www.venusproject.com/ecs/definition_family_values.html

- Validate this website: check the other links posted on this site. What do you discover?

2. Find out about the various forms of family in your class group.

3. What does 'fmaily' represent in different cultures?

4. Watch this video and consider the values portrayed in a single parent family.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v66VMFBPq8E

Do you agree that "We are imperfect beings having a loving experience, the result of our relationship will depends on how we balance our imperfection with our values."

5. There are different definitions of family according to perspective:

Social Scientists' Definition of Family
The State's Definition of Family
The Definition of Family in a Conservative Free Society
The Definition of Family in a Libertarian Free Society

Next week you will have to argue from ONE of these perspectives. Check them out in preparation; from A Definition of Family in a Free Society http://libertariannation.org/a/f43d1.html

6. Find some cartoons depicting family values and any insights/ controversies in interpreting the concept of family.
